Near this spot, John Eves made the first
settlement in Millville back in 1772.

Modern-day Millville shows what has become of a fascinating historical past. The evidence of its history still exists; however you might pass these sites as you go by without a look. With its homes hiding themselves behind the shops and many industries, the town always has a secret yet to be found.

If you choose to explore the town of Millville, you are sure to find a stone into which a message is engraved. This message reads: "Near this spot John Eves made this first settlement in this community, 1772". So tells this the story of Millville's beginning. Soon after making the discovery of the land which would become Millville, John Eves returned to his home of Delaware. In the year of 1785, he returned with his wife and children. It was then that two homes and a grist mill were built on the west side of the creek.

From the mill, Millville derived its name. John Eves rebuilt on the east side of the creek, north of its present day location. After his death, son Thomas continued its operation. However on the date of April 15th, 1834, he sold the mill to David Masters. The mill burnt down five years later. George Masters and John Betz rebuilt the mill and gained ownership on July 4th, 1852.

In 1867, the mill was operated as McHenry and Heacock. In 1887, Josiah Heacock purchased the [Uriah] McHenry interest. Josiah Heacock led a retirement which lasted until 1902. For ten years the mill was operated under the name of M.M. and Harry Shoemaker. It was sold it 1912 to J. Lundy Reece and Ellis Greenly. In 1920 it was sold to its present day owners, Reece & Greecely Company, who both enlarged and improved the mill.

Millville has many powerful companies such as Girton Industries. It has a population of 969 people and 392 families. Its land area is 2.47 square kilometers.
