Jonestown is in Columbia County, located along Huntington Creek, at the base of the Krolo Mountain. Bendertown, Southdale and Asbury surround it. Early in the sixteenth century of 1786, Abraham Dodder settled the "village" of Jonestown. Jonestown is located in the agricultural region, and actually became a small center for agricultural activities. So, the two main industries were farming and mills. In 1809, a sawmill was built and a school was built in 1876. Jonestown received much importance for its position on the Susquehanna and Tioga turnpike. There were small houses, shops, a church (Jonestown United Methodist), graveyard, a school, yet all is gone now except for the church, graveyard and a few houses. It is slowly breaking down, and most of the wooded area has shrunk, yet, even this town still exists and is part of our history.
